The missions

Seven ways to earn your silence

A Risly alarm doesn't have an off switch. It has a mission. Each one drags your brain out of sleep mode, gently or ruthlessly. You choose the fight.

Gets you out of bed

Object Scan

Pick an everyday object when you set the alarm: your toothbrush, the coffee machine, the bathroom soap. When the alarm fires, the only way to silence it is to walk there and scan it with the camera.

  • On-device object recognition checks it's the real thing: no cheating with a photo of a photo.
  • Forces actual movement: once you're standing at the coffee machine, going back to bed feels absurd.
  • Best for: people who can dismiss any alarm without opening their eyes.

Math Chains

Chained mental-math problems, calibrated so you can't autopilot through them. Your prefrontal cortex has to come online, and that's exactly the part of your brain that decides to get up.

  • Difficulty tiers from warm-up arithmetic to genuinely mean chains.
  • Wrong answers reset the chain. The alarm keeps ringing.
  • Best for: people who wake up physically but stay mentally asleep for an hour.

Shake

Shake your phone hard, and keep shaking. The accelerometer measures intensity and duration: a lazy wobble under the duvet doesn't count.

  • Calibrated thresholds: your arm is genuinely awake by the end.
  • Works anywhere: no camera, no light needed at 5am.
  • Best for: minimalists who want friction without leaving the bed. Yet.

Push-ups

Prop your phone against the wall, get down, and push. The camera counts your reps on-device. The alarm stops when the set is done, and by then, so is your sleepiness.

  • Vision-based rep counting, processed entirely on your iPhone.
  • Configurable set size, from 5 gentle reps to morning-workout territory.
  • Best for: people who want the alarm clock and the workout coach in one.

QR Code

Print the Risly QR once and stick it somewhere you have to walk to: the bathroom mirror, the kitchen, the hallway. When the alarm fires, the only way to silence it is to get up and scan that exact code.

  • Always the same code, generated on your iPhone: reprint it anytime, and a reinstall or a new phone never breaks it.
  • Placed far from the bed, crawling back under the duvet stops being an option.
  • Best for: people who'll do mental math half-asleep but can't fake walking across the room.

Barcode

No printer? Pick any barcode or QR you already own (a shampoo bottle, a cereal box, the back of a book) and register it in a single scan. That one code becomes your morning off switch.

  • One scan to set it, one scan to wake: the exact code you chose is the only one that stops the alarm.
  • Stash it across the room so silencing the alarm always means standing up first.
  • Best for: people who want the QR mission without ever touching a printer.

Flash Grid

Cells flash one after another on a 3x3 grid, the grid empties, and you tap the same ones back in any order. Three rounds, each one cell longer than the last. You can't reproduce a pattern you never really looked at.

  • Three tiers: Easy builds from one cell to three, Hard from three to five. Easy is the default.
  • Tap a cell that didn't flash and the round starts over. The alarm keeps ringing.
  • Best for: people who don't need dragging out of bed, just switching on.
